Streams
Streams are offered to simplify accreditation for Lay Preacher candidates, but other participants may mix and match session options according to personal interest or need:
Lay Preacher Candidate stream: Candidates for the specified ministry of Lay Preacher are required to participate in a ‘formation weekend’ in order to attain the VicTas Synod’s Certificate of Lay Preacher Studies, part of the training requirements for accreditation as a Lay Preacher by the candidate’s Presbytery. The Candidates Stream includes sessions on the lay ministries of the Uniting Church, the Basis of Union, the Code of Ethics and Ministry Practice for Lay Preachers, continuing education and support structures. Some sessions may be suitable for Pastors seeking to fulfil Core Competencies.
Continuing Education stream: The Continuing Education stream includes sessions for experienced Lay Preachers and lay worship leaders, as well as newly accredited Lay Preachers. Every two years accredited Lay Preachers may apply for a Continuing Education Award from the Synod Lay Preachers’ Association, based on the education they have undertaken during that period.
Ministry Exploration stream: Considering offering yourself for ministry? Wondering what God is calling you to? Keen to discern with the Church how your gifts and graces may be used to build up communities in faith, hope and love? The Ministry Exploration stream includes time for reflection and conversation with experienced leaders who may assist you in discerning the next steps to nurture your sense of call.
Pastor possibilities
Potential or provisional pastors seeking to meet competencies may find relevant sessions in the candidate or continuing education streams.
