Artists Network Gathering

Location:
Parkville

A lively group of visual artists from all over Victoria have been meeting since the recent Babble:on Conference to talk about forming an Arts and Spirituality Network.  A progressive collaborative artwork started with ochre brushstrokes was begun and will be added to over time.

We expressed a desire to meet in regional centres as well as the city, and will plan such gatherings in future. Please contact Christina Rowntree, Artfull Faith Co-ordinator to register your interest in future gatherings.  The next two gatherings are listed here, with more details to follow soon.

Our purpose statement is developing:

VicTas Art and Spirituality Network

The Art and Spirituality Network is committed to exploring and promoting the powerful connection between spirituality and the visual art. The network welcomes art practitioners and others who seek to engage with art and spirituality as a means of exploring the great issues of faith and life.

Convened under the auspices of the Uniting Church, the Network recognises the great variety of spiritual experience and expression within Christianity. It also affirms the diversity and insights of spiritual traditions within other religions, and welcomes a broad participation in its activities by people of spirit.

The network provides opportunities for us to explore and elucidate spiritual insights that derive from our own particular journeys in faith. We seek to engage with, reflect upon, and celebrate the diverse expressions of art and spirituality.

The network is a community of artists who will:

  • Support each other in our expression of art and spirituality.
  • Promote the visual arts as a path towards spiritual reflection and growth.
  • Encourage each other in the development of art.
  • Provide opportunities for sharing, mutual engagement and education.
  • Both educate and provoke the church to discover, in a new era, the ways in which art may enhance its life and those of its members.
