News of the Appointment of Professor of Old Testament
It is our pleasure to announce that the Synod Standing Committee has appointed the Rev Dr Monica Melanchthon as the Professor of Old Testament within the CTM as of 1 May 2012.
Dr Melanchthon is currently Professor of Old Testament studies at Gurukul Lutheran Theological College, Chennai, India. Monica is an internationally-known OT scholar with degrees from the Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago, Serampore University and Bangalore University. Amongst many other positions and responsibilities Monica has been visiting scholar to UTC, Sydney and the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Mitaka, Tokyo.
Two of Monica’s forthcoming publications give a taste of her interests and passions “Mapping feminist Biblical Studies in Asia” in Feminist Biblical studies in the 20th century edited by Elizabeth Schussler Fiorenza and “Biblical and Theological Perspectives of Ecumenism: Old Testament Perspective” in Learning Ecumenism Together: Resources from Asian Perspectives.
The staff of the CTM look forward to working with Monica and anticipate the contribution that she will make to the wider synod and the UFT.
