Welcome to the Uniting Church Theological College (UCTC)

The UCTC is committed to forming people for leadership of the contemporary church, with a particular focus on the Ministry of the Word (MoW) and the Ministry of Deacon (MoD). The College is
• a worshipping community which derives its life from the triune God
• a learning community where we grow together in our knowledge of the faith, in our skills for ministry, and in personal maturity.
• a serving community, exploring effective ways of engaging in the ministry and mission of Jesus Christ, in and for the world

Our primary aim is to form people to give the sort of leadership which nurtures, sustains and renews the church in the life of the gospel.

As part of the Uniting Church in Australia, we have foundational commitments:
• to the Basis of Union
• to our Reformed and Evangelical traditions
• to our ongoing ecumenical cooperation
• to a capacity to live and share the faith within the contemporary Australian context

In keeping with these commitments, we give high priority to the integration of our learning and the practice of ministry. In particular, Ministry formation involves study in the biblical, theological, historical, pastoral, educational and liturgical traditions of the Church, and the integration of these various aspects of learning with Christian faith and life experience. To achieve this purpose, students are exposed to learning both in the classroom and in a variety of ministry contexts.

Our intention is to assist people as they are shaped in their identity for ministry within the church, in understanding who we are as servants of the gospel, and becoming whom we are called by God to be, as leaders of the future church. Spiritual direction and supervision are part and parcel of this process. While there are clear requirements for becoming ordained, the gifts and skills of each person are affirmed and given space to be developed, so that the shape of a person’s ministry will be unique. For everyone, the experience of formation for Ministry is exciting, challenging and life-changing.

The UCTC also
• Promotes serious research and the publication of scholarly articles and books
• Opens its doors to the wider church by receiving students who are exploring the possibility of becoming candidates for Ministry, or who are involved in local church leadership and wish to become theologically well equipped.
• Offers a program where its lecturers travel to other parts of the Synod to resource the church’s learning.
